Work at Edwards AFB:

1988-1990: Mathematician and Computer Scientist. 6521st Range Squadron, Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, CA.

1993-2014: Mathematician and Computer Scientist. 412 Test Wing, Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, CA.

General Description: The main activity at Edwards AFB is the testing of aircraft. This includes the testing of new aircraft (such as the JSF) and of experimental modifications to existing aircraft (such as are made to F-l5s). My earlier work included software engineering and data analysis. During the last 18 years I coordinated research and development of new test instrumentation for aircraft. This involved long term planning (up to 20 years in advance) including input into studies and roadmaps as well as providing ongoing technical oversight for about $15 million in research contracts.

Education:

1976-1981 Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA, BA in Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science, January 1981.

1986-1988 Washington State University, Pullman, WA, MS in Mathematics, May 1988.

1990-1993 Washington State University, Pullman, WA, Ph.D. in Mathematics, May 1993.

From his wife on Facebook:

"This is Charles's wife, Barbara.I'm posting to let all of his friends know that he died last night here at his home in Eugene. Only a few of his friends were with us, as he wished.

He chose Death with Dignity and I'm grateful that he had that choice. He had been fighting cancer since 2021 and was finally in too much pain to have any quality of life.

He was an amazing man and had a profound impact on my life. I am a better person for having been loved by him. He was a secular man and I would appreciate it if people refrained from making comments such as "he's in a better place" or "I'll be praying for you". It feels disrespectful of his worldview. I will miss him terribly."
