Collet E. "Mac" McElroy

Collet E. "Mac" McElroy died in Oro Valley, AZ, on November 24, 2013, due to
complications from shingles and leukemia. He was 70 years old.
Collet was born on July 16, 1943, to Helen and Eugene McElroy in Roseburg, OR.
After growing up in Oregon and parts of northern California, "Mac" graduated
from Northrup Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, CA. In 1973, he earned an
MSc at Cranfield University, UK. Mac enjoyed a long and distinguished career as
an aeronautical engineer.
Mac served in the Air Force from 1968-1972, working in the Flight Test Center at
Edwards AFB, CA. From 1974 to 1976, he worked at Boeing, but returned to EAFB to
work as a civilian flight test engineer from 1976-1980. Mac spent the next 17
years in the FAA at the Seattle Aircraft Certification Office Flight Test
Branch, serving as an engineer, supervisor, and manager. Since retiring from the
FAA in 1997, he worked as an aviation consultant in a wide range of roles.
After moving to Arizona in 2005, Mac continued to work. He also enjoyed riding
his bicycle and swimming, serving at a local mission and in his church,
traveling for work and pleasure. Mac was committed to his faith, family,
friends, and work. His life reflected his integrity and perseverance and was
rooted in an authentic faith in God.
His father preceded Mac in death. He leaves his wife of 42 years, Kathleen
(Hixson); son, Paul; daughter, Beth Pray (Dave), and granddaughter, Hannah Pray;
mother, Helen; brother, David McElroy (Susie); sister, Linda Rich (Alan);
nephews, nieces, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; countless friends and
professional colleagues.
